SK Hynix is the world's leading supplier of HBM (High Bandwidth Memory), the stacked DRAM that provides the massive memory bandwidth required by AI accelerators. The company supplied essentially all of NVIDIA's HBM3E memory for the H100 and H200 in 2023–2024, making it a critical and often overlooked chokepoint in the AI supply chain. HBM is manufactured by stacking multiple DRAM dies with through-silicon vias (TSVs) and bonding them to a logic die — a technically demanding process that only SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron can perform. SK Hynix holds approximately 50% of the HBM market and has been running at full allocation with a backlog extending into 2026. Its Icheon and Cheongju fabs in South Korea are among the most strategically important manufacturing sites in the world.
