Cadence Design Systems provides the electronic design automation (EDA) software that every advanced chip designer — NVIDIA, AMD, Apple, Qualcomm, Broadcom — uses to design silicon. Without Cadence tools (Virtuoso for analog, Genus/Innovus for digital, Tempus for timing signoff), no leading-edge chip can be taped out at TSMC or Samsung. Since 2022, US BIS export controls have restricted Cadence from supplying advanced EDA software to Chinese chip designers including Huawei HiSilicon.
